Helvellyn Walk – 5th/6th July

Join Odyssey Staff to walk up one of England’s most famous and best loved mountains

Situated between Ullswater and Thirlmere in the Lake District, Helvellyn is England’s 3rd highest mountain and has been voted by the public as Britain’s most popular walk.

The walk will take place over the weekend of the 5th/6th July 2025. As mountain weather conditions can vary from day to day a decision will be made at the time as to whether the walk will take place on the  Saturday or Sunday.  In the event of exceptionally bad weather on both days a low level walk will take place instead.

Start and finish:

We propose to take a long easy walk on a good path starting and finishing at the village of Glenridding. There is a large car park in Glenridding

How fit do I need to be?

People of all ages and ability climb Helvellyn on a regular basis. However, to enjoy the experience walkers will need to have a good level of fitness and be prepared to walk for up to 7hrs gaining a height of 950m (3118ft) in the process.

Cost:

The walk is being offered free of charge as part of Odyssey’s 30th birthday celebrations. However, if people would like to make a contribution or use the challenge as a chance to fundraise for Odyssey we will be delighted.

Accommodation:

Walkers will need to organise their own accommodation. As an early start on the Saturday morning is anticipated, it’s recommended that people book accommodation in or near Glenridding for both the Friday and Saturday nights. Once your place on the walk has been confirmed, you will need to book somewhere as soon as possible. The Lake District is very popular in the summer months and accommodation can fill up fast!
